Jastram Engineering, a specialist in marine hydraulic steering, offers a unique electronic control system for precise, accurate and fully independent control of twin steering gears.  Vessels with multiple rudder arrangements such as catamarans, work boats, icebreakers and offshore patrol vessels will benefit from this system.  Mechanical linkage between the port and starboard rudders is not required.

Each rudder, or set of rudders, on the vessel is electronically controlled by a Jastram full follow-up amplifier system.  Rudders can be selected to operate in either fully synchronized mode (for traditional rudder operation) or, independent mode  for  modified manoeuvring characteristics or dynamic  braking). 

The system exceeds worldwide classification requirements of single failure criteria for steering systems.  Should a failure occur on one side, the redundancy feature permits the vessel to be safely controlled by the opposite steering system.
